SLAYER Fan Gets Ejected From San Diego Concert After Allegedly Spitting On TOM ARAYA (Video)

July 23, 2016

A SLAYER fan was ejected from the band's concert in San Diego after allegedly spitting on the group's frontman, Tom Araya.

The incident happened during SLAYER's special set Thursday night (July 21) at the House Of Blues as part of Comic-Con's week of festivities.

Fan-filmed video footage of shows Araya flinching on stage and saying "Somebody just fucking spit on me" before repeatedly posing the question "What was that about?" to the allegedly disrespectful fan. Araya continued to gesture at the man, asking him "What was that about?" and "Why?" while the crowd started chanting "Throw him out! Throw him out!" The audience eventually got its wish as the fan in question was apparently escorted out of the venue before SLAYER launched into the next song of its set.

In a 2015 interview with The Quietus, Araya said that SLAYER fans are "pretty fucking crazy. Pretty out there. Incredible fans." He continued: "There have been a lot of situations where people will say, 'Tom, things are getting out of hand. You need to tell them to stop!' But there is absolutely no point in doing that because, no matter what you say from the stage, all they'll hear is, 'Do it again.' They don't hear what you're actually saying, they only hear what they wanna hear, which is 'Do it more!' [Laughs] 'He likes what we're doing! Let's carry on doing it… but let's do it more!'"

Araya told New Noise Magazine in 2013 that SLAYER has a pretty thick skin when it comes to criticism, even when it comes from the band's own fans. He said: "Fans are pretty brutal; they wanna get involved, they wanna call the shots, and when you don't do what they say, or you do something they don't like, they begin to hate."

He added: "With SLAYER, it's like, it didn't really matter to us what some of these fans thought about the band, because that's just how SLAYER is. We move forward and we do what we do and we don't take shit from anybody, not even our fans."
